Long-term income protection when you need it most
If you are unable to work due to long-term disability, the Fund's LTD policy provides ongoing income replacement to help you maintain financial stability during recovery.
How long benefits continue based on age at disability
The length of time you receive LTD benefits depends on your age when you become disabled:
| Age at Disability | Maximum Benefit Duration |

| 61 or younger | To age 65 or SSNRA*, whichever is longer |
| 62 | To SSNRA or 3.5 years |
| 63 | To SSNRA or 3 years |
| 64 | To SSNRA or 2.5 years |
| 65 | 2 years |
| 66 | 1 year 9 months |
| 67 | 1 year 6 months |
| 68 | 1 year 3 months |
| 69+ | 1 year |
* SSNRA = Social Security Normal Retirement Age
What is not covered under LTD insurance
Exception for Preexisting Conditions: Preexisting condition exclusions do not apply if you have been insured continuously for 12 months.
Disabilities due to the following conditions are covered up to 24 months lifetime, unless you are hospitalized:

Maintaining your prescription coverage
LTD recipients remain eligible for the prescription benefit through the PFT Health and Welfare Fund.
